Every child deserves a protective environment where they can enjoy and live their childhood to the fullest. They need an environment that is free from violence, conflict, and all the opportunities to thrive. Despite so much progress in the world, many children are still living without basic rights. Their lives are being touched by violence and conflict. Approximately 800 million children are there who live in fragile, conflict, violence. They live in a place where their rights are generally denied and they do not get much chance to enjoy or live their childhood.

The question which arises is, what are child rights? Child rights are the human rights of children regardless of their race, sex, caste, wealth, age, or birthplace. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a treaty which sets out the political, economic, cultural, civil, social, and health rights of children. They make laws for each child and make sure they all get that same opportunity.

STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN

Here are some child rights that are being violated in many countries, first is child marriage. According to UNICEF’s June 2019 report, 12 million girls are married before they turn 18 every year, and, and in the developing world, one in nine girls is married before they turn up 15. Around the world, 650 million girls and women alive today were married before they were 18.

Secondly, child labor is also among the top of the violated rights of children. Some other violated rights include lack of access to clean water, lack of access to education, lack of access to healthcare, female genital mutilation (FGM), child abuse and there are many more. FGM is defined as “all procedures involving partial or total removal of the female external genitalia or other injuries to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.” Today, at least 200 million girls and women have undergone FGM, and the average age of a girl who undergoes FGM is 10 years old.

These problems need to be tackled up on a big scale as these are not only limited to a nation. To tackle up these issues, awareness among citizens should be kept at the top. We all need to stand together to protect the future of a child. People need to be stopped from employing a child in their homes, shops, factories, etc. Detection and intervention programs for child abuse should be taken into consideration. Workshops need to be organized and other measures like the creation of family programs to monitor and report abuse to the considered authority. Laws need to be set up by the government and those laws should be strictly implemented.

The youth, our future is playing the best role in this. All the countries have some young volunteers who are working to protect children from this violence and abuse. They are assisting children by educating them, providing food, and helping them to get out of these tough situations. Education is the only powerful tool that can change their life. These young minds are exerting all their efforts and making the purest souls to smile and live life to the fullest.

We all need to fight against this violation. Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun: not living in the nightmare of the darkness of the soul.
