Career in Social Work

Social work is an opportunity to help others. It can very well be your profession with appreciate salaries if community welfare is something you are passionate about. As a profession, it is aimed towards contributing to social welfare and well being. It mainly facilitates into welfare services of communities and individuals. Social workers can work on individual, community, national, international and even transnational level. There are organizational all around the world focusing on different causes. The scope of social work is very wide.

In this article, we will be looking at how one can make a career in social work. The guidance provided in this article is based on a live session conducted by the Shashi Dream Foundation on “Masters of Social Work (MSW)”, with the guest speaker as Shri Akash Barua.

Shri Akash Barua

Shri Akash Barua is an experienced person in the field of social work. At present, he is the president at Rotaract Club of Gwalior Regal Rid 3053. He is also the founder of a youth organisation known as Yuvaan Foundation. He has completed M.A extension education and social work. He is a young social activist awarded with Champions of change award by TCS REX and United Nations in IIT Delhi, skill mind Special appreciation award in Patna and the brand Gwalior award for working on development of the youth. In this article, we will be looking at how one can make a career in social work. The guidance provided in this article is based on a live session conducted by the Shashi Dream Foundation on “Masters of Social Work (MSW)”, with the guest speaker as Shri Akash Barua.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1) For a Bachelors in Social Work (BSW): Candidates should have completed their class 12th in any discipline from a recognized board.

2) For Masters in Social Work (MSW): Candidates should have completed their graduation in any stream from a recognized university/ institute but graduates with social sciences or sociology are given more preference.

3) Candidates who have completed their M.Phil can also apply for the M.S.W program.

4) Candidates having M.Phil. or M.S.W degree can pursue Ph.D./ doctorate in social work.

5) Candidates are also required to qualify certain entrance exams such as TISSNET, JMI Entrance test, DUET etc. to take admission into the Master’s program in specific colleges.
