Starting a new job is exciting, intimidating, stressful and fulfilling. It’s the time of new commencements in life with mixed emotions. Best way to deal with them is making yourself prepared in advance with challenges to be faced, knowing what you are getting into and having a plan to prosper every yes or no, this is a Launching bid to success.

EXPERT’S GUIDE:

Mrs Kaushaki Sondhi

Mrs kaushaki Sondhi is a Editor at “National Council of News and Broadcasting” and also a Board member (Mentor) at “Voices on the Mount” Ghana Takoradi Africa. President — State at Bhavishya Education and Arts Foundation Delhi. International Chief Advisor at NGO Safeguarding Children Committee U.P.

Her main focus is on “Women Empowerment”, “Equal Education for Everyone” “Human Rights” and “Global Influence”. She has majored in Economics, Finance and Management as a Professional Educator, also skilled in University Teaching from Hong Kong and TEFL Teaching. She wanted to do more and be more than an Educator, which ignited her experience as a Live Session host and speaker for various National and International Innovative projects for social causes, awareness, and betterment of Society. Her goal is to make “INNOVATIVE INDIA” by bringing educators, professors and Authors from different fields to provide Equal access to Education for Everyone and Empowering Women with financial start-ups and Education. In short, her passion for creativity and constant learning is accompanied by the thrill of production.

She said a student who has passed 10th standard is completely in confusion which career to opt for. One cannot be confused at that stage of life because after that he or she has to choose a stream in which he or she wants to build more. After 10 standard one has to choose between Science, Commerce and Arts stream, these are three completely different streams with different subjects. So we’re having interest in finance and accounting and can not go for Biology or political science. 10th and 12th standards are the ages where a student needs to discover their abilities, skills, and their interest in one can build more and more effort for a successful career.

In between, she took the example of movie ‘3 Idiots’ addressing the need of choosing a career of interest. She illustrated many skills that a student needs to work upon before giving for Graduation to have a good hand in leadership, communication skills, interpersonal skills (e.g. Soft skills), confident personality, and so on. These are the basic skills that act as a base for a professional life.

She asked to do SWOT analysis for deciding what to do:

S: Discover your Strengths

W: Mark your Weaknesses

O: Analyse the available Opportunities in the industry going into

T: Mark your Threats/Hindrances, find a solution for them before choosing that career.

7 Basic Tips for a Successful Career:

  • Interpersonal Skills: Most important step or initial step is communication. In every field, whether business or services one needs strong communication skills to share their progress with their colleagues, to impress potential buyers to their firm, teamwork and so on.
  • Socialise: The more one communicates the more are the opportunities. Building relationships for the sake of getting help when needed doesn’t imply socialising. Socialising contributes to increasing Communication skills, the more you communicate the more you expertise team work.
  • Know your worth: You should know your capabilities, never underestimate your abilities for a job. Be confident, of what you are and earn for your work.
  • Make a room for yourself: There should be a personal space where you can think in peace, figure every to and fro, and come to a conclusion in your own way.
  • Be vocal: commence participating in the contests, quizzes, extempore, and other activities that groom your skills.
  • Play Long Game: Don’t hurry for the outcome. Work more and more and for the result. Sometimes immediate awards can be disastrous or last for a short period. Prepare and work for a long term journey, not for short cuts and immediate earning.
  • Create Achievable Goals: Start from small steps instead of a giant leap. Make small goals for a day or two, and work on achieving them. This will boost confidence and self-management.
