Lack of employable education in India
India has a lot of premier institutions that offer high-class education but admission to these institutions is quite difficult. Due to the ever-burgeoning population, there’s always a struggle for seats in these institutions.
As a result, a lot of people take admission in self-financed institutions. These institutions lack infrastructure and robust faculty. They have a very loose approach to education. The students studying in these institutions do not get trained for the real world. As a result, they end up being unemployed.
The unemployment rate in the country is soaring high. Not only the uneducated, the ones who have received higher education are also suffering from this. There is a huge gap between academic knowledge and knowledge about real-time work situations. The main reason behind this is the poor quality of education available throughout the country. Apart from a few premier institutions, the rest of the institutions offer low-quality education and usually focus on rote-learning. This makes the students expert in writing exams but they remain ignorant of the practical approaches. These institutions have outdated syllabus and untrained professors. Still, they expect the students to perform perfectly in their exams. These institutions give no practical hands-on experience to the students. Sadly, this is the situation all over India.
As a result, the youth of the country deal with problems related to unemployment even after spending a lot of money on their higher education.
In 2017–18 about 33% of the youth remained unemployed because they lacked the skills that the employers are looking for in their employees.
The need of the hour is for the government to spend money and effort on skill development programs and vocational training. The traditional approaches and rote-learning methods should be discouraged. They should try and integrate technology to make learning more fun and interactive.
Luckily, the government has taken certain initiatives like Digital India and Skill India. Hopefully, they will help in solving the problem of unemployment.
