Session 77
On October 4, 2020, Shashi Dream Foundation organized a Career Counselling Talk on ‘Finance’ by Mr. Suresh Varma. He is currently a trainer in Financial Modelling at IMS Proschool. He also conducts workshops on Finance in colleges. He is a graduate in B.Tech (computer science) from IIT Dhanbad and a post graduate in MBA (Finance) from IIT Rohtak. He has worked as a Software engineer in Samsung and an Investment Banker in Alpen Capital.
Mr. Suresh Varma started the session by highlighting the importance of Demand, supply and economics in finance. He took some real life examples and related it with the present condition due to Covid-19, making it easier for attendees to understand what exactly finance is. He then explained meticulously branches of Finance such as Sell side, Buy side and Market, where sell side consists of a company itself or a secondary trader, Buy side consists of retail investors or institutional investors and Market consists of financial products. He gave an overview about the IPO in seller side, making the attendees aware about primary and secondary market in Finance.
He further explained the important roles in finance such as Portfolio management, Investment Banking, Equity Researchers and Credit Rating Agency. He also added information about the CFA and skill sets such as Excel, Advanced Excel, Financial Modelling required for entering into the Finance field. He shared his experience while working as an investment banker and also the challenges he faced during MBA and how he overcame it. He stressed on the fact that one should give importance to skills rather than degree, sky is the limit so have the willingness and zeal to learn and apply it.
Mr. Suresh Varma shared a success mantra which can be useful to many in future: ‘ TRY TO MAKE YOUR FUN, YOUR MOTIVATION. HAVE FUN ALONGWITH STUDY, EVERYTHING WILL GO WELL’.
Session 78
Our 78th career counselling session was based on Petroleum engineering as a career. Our speaker for the session was Mr. ANSHUL KAPOOR. He graduated from IIT Dhanbad in Petroleum Engineering and has over 7 years of experience in the field. He has carried out various projects in UAE, Russia, and Norway and is currently working in Bangalore, India.
The session commenced with career journey of our expert and then he explained the basics and importance of Petroleum engineering. He mentioned that products based on petroleum are common in our day to day lives, like LPG for cooking, petrol in our cars, and even the plastic bags we use, are based on petroleum. The industry of petroleum engineering is divided in the Commercial and Engineering sides. Students with background in commerce can contribute to the Commercial and financial aspects in a company while the students with background in science can work on the technological aspects. He focused on the science side and shared brief important tips for preparation of entrance examinations. He described the skills that are essential to be petroleum engineering like problem solving, good aptitude in physics and mathematics and teamwork and interpersonal skills to handle big projects in the industry. Sir also mentioned that to excel in this career, it is essential that one makes good decisions in uncertainty. Our expert shared a SUCCESS MANTRA with our viewers, “CARPE DIEM i.e. SIEZE THE DAY. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES AND DELIVER YOUR BEST”.
Session 79
The 79th career counselling session enlightened us on Business, Entrepreneurship, and Small & Medium Enterprises (SME). Our speaker for the session was Mr. MANOJ KRISHNA. He graduated from B.H.U Institute of Science in Chemistry and post graduated from B.H.U Institute of Management Studies in International Business. He has several years of experience in international firms and is currently the founder of his own venture, Crozair Technicea, which specializes in production of variety of vacuum pumps.
The session commenced with career journey of our expert. He mentioned that from his work experience in several international-based companies, he observed a major difference in the work culture and even thought processes. He then talked about SMEs. He said SME is all about a mind-set. One should work with the current scenario and local resources and give their best. In a start-up, one must have liberty in work and should not be too rigid. He provided some particularly important advices. When entering the business world, it is necessary that one starts early. The entrepreneurial mentality is important, and one should be innovative enough. Our expert believes that there is no fixed or right time to begin a business. The right moment is right now! It is important that you do not rush and take small steps. Analyze yourself properly, considering all your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The most important skill for a businessman will be ‘Flexibility’. One should not hesitate to do any type of work, be it small or big. Observing the surroundings and the ability to learn, adapt and even unlearn will play a key role. Our expert shared a SUCCESS MANTRA with our viewers, “FOCUS, LOYALITY AND PASSION ARE IMPORTANT QUALITIES FOR SUCCESS IN THE BUSINESS WORLD”.
Session 80
The 80th counselling session organized by Shashi Dream Foundation was on ‘Career in Polymer Science’. The speaker for this session was Mr. Pradipta Das. He is currently working as a Research Engineer at Saint Gobain. He did his B.Tech from Calcutta University in Polymer Science. After graduation he worked for a year, and after that gave GATE exam and got admission in IIT Delhi. He did his M.Tech in Polymer Science from IIT Delhi which was followed by a PhD in polymer Science from abroad.
The session was extremely informative as sir emphasized on how one must be prepared for any challenges that might come in one’s way. He explained about the various opportunities that are available in India and how one can also have a job in any other country. He stressed upon the idea of having an open mind and accepting the different opportunities that come one’s way. He also mentioned about PhD and how one can go for a PhD if they are motivated enough and have the determination to learn. He also urged the students to make use of LinkedIn and explained how it becomes important for students to showcase their talents and seek jobs.
He encouraged the students to make the best of this Covid-19 situation and work on themselves to improve their skills. He placed importance on communication skills and motivated the students to keep working hard and work for their goals.
Session 81
Shashi Dream Foundation organized a Career Counselling Talk on “Food Technology’ on October 21st, 2020. The guest speaker was Mrs. Swati Pereira, Regulatory Affairs Specialist in Mondelez International. She completed her B.SC in Biotechnology from RUIA College, Mumbai and pursued PG Diploma in Food Technology. She has 8 years of experience in different sectors of Food Technology: New Product Development, Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. She had prior experience in New Product Development as RnD scientist.
In the beginning of the session Mrs. Swati cleared the confusion, a misconception that most of us have about Food Technology that it is related to cooking, but in actual it is an application of science on food which include processing, preservation, packaging, labelling, quality management, and distribution of food products. She made us aware how nutritious, delicious and safe food is being reached out to the consumer with the use of Food Technology. She further said how in this pandemic, consuming nutritious food has become necessary to boost the immunity which has in turn increased the demand of food everywhere. Food being one of the basic necessities of man has increased the scope in Food Technology across the world.
She then provided necessary information regarding eligibility criteria, education fees, entrance examination, scholarship, internship, skills required, salary and scopes in various reputed food companies. She then explained in detail the career opportunities in Food Technology such as Research And development, Quality Control Analyst, Food Auditor, Production Manager and Regulatory Affairs, Food Safety Officer, Dietician and Professor. She suggested some of the best colleges and institutes for courses in Food Technology such as IIT Kharagpur, ICT, Jadhavpur University, NIFTEM Haryana, CFTRI Mysore, IIFPT and many more whereas IGNOU and ICT for distance learning. Also suggested some good books such as Introduction to Food Science, Principles of Food Engineering, Food Processing Technology and Principles of Food Science which can help aspirants to technically polish themselves as well as create a base in Food Technology.
The session was very informative according to career point of view and the attendees acquired enormous basic knowledge on Food Technology.
She ended the session with a success mantra which everyone should adopt in their life: ‘You learn from Failure. Until you fall, you don’t know how to get up and rise. So Never Ever Give Up.’
Session 82
On 24th October, 2020 Shashi Dream Foundation conducted a Career Counselling Talk on ‘Career in Commerce’ through Social media platform. The session speaker was Mr. Pankaj Garg, currently holding a position of Chief Financial Officer. He is a qualified CA of 1990 batch and graduated in B.Com (Hons) from prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University in 1987. He had been a gold medalist in 10+2 level and merit rank holder in CA. His experience in various business segments extends over 30 years and reflects a diverse experience base. He started his career as a CA industrial trainee at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In 1994 he joined PepsiCo as Plant Accountant, where he received an award for his notable work. He worked in large Indian conglomerates like Jindal Steel, UltraTech Cement and Dalmia Bharat. He has held a position of Assistant Vice President at UltraTech Cement. He has vast work experience from FMCG to infrastructure companies.
He started the session by sharing his journey as a student and how he got into CA. In his times there was only CA foundation course examination, whereas now you’ve to clear both Foundation course and CA intermediate examinations to get an admission into CA. He focused on job vacancies where earlier there were fewer opportunities but later in the year 2010–11 CA institutes started providing job placements. Even B.Com graduates found an incredible increase in job opportunities.
Other than CA, he mentioned about BA Economics and explained how its market as well as job value is higher than B.Com because many financial institutions, banks, non-banking financial institutions in India hunt for economists. He suggested some good colleges in Delhi for pursuing BA Economics such as ShriRam College, Lady Shri Ram College, St Stephen’s and Hindu College. He also discussed about other courses such as ICAI and ICSI in detail and provided necessary information on admission procedures and fees, books, scope in and outside India, salary and skills required. He then shared his career journey, how he worked creatively and made considerable improvements (e.g. shortening of month end close) while at Nestle.
Guiding us to be always creative and think out of the box in business Mr. Pankaj shared a success mantra with us: ‘We being in business, are valued, only if we make any remarkable improvement in business.’
Session 83
Our 83rd career counselling session was based on Textile Engineering as a career. Our speaker for the session was Mrs. ASHWINI ANIL RAYBAGI. She has completed her B. Text and M. Text in Textiles along with a Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Textiles at DKTE’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji since 2009. She is also the Joint Treasurer at Textile Association of India, Ichalkaranji, and Miraj Unit.
The session commenced with career journey of our expert, and she explained the eligibility criteria needed to enter the field. She mentioned that she has several research publications in reputed National and International journals and also her own Book publication, titled, ‘Studies on Blended Air Jet Textured Yarns and Fabrics’. She then highlighted the fact that Clothing is a necessity in everyone’s life. Hence, the scope of the textile field is immense. Several job opportunities are available in and not restricted to various national, international companies and Government organizations with good pay! She also pointed out that the roles in the textile industry are not limited. One can work as a Production officer, Designer, R&D officer and several more. The most important skills according to our expert to excel in this field are good problem-solving skills, excellent aptitude in mathematics and a hardworking nature. It’s also essential that one makes firm decisions. Our expert also believes that problems and challenges are common in life, but it is necessary that we don’t worry about it and instead work hard to achieve our goals. Our expert shared a SUCCESS MANTRA with our viewers, “PUT YOUR HEART AND SOUL INTO YOUR WORK AND YOU SHALL DEFINETELY GAIN SUCCESS”
