Career in Marketing Research

Market research is a part of business planning or business strategy. It is used by ventures to gather and analyze information that helps in understanding consumer and market behaviors. Information collected includes market composition and size, market trends, customer demographic, consumer satisfaction, target market, market forecasting for new products, etc.

Everyone knows that to make your idea, cause or product known, marketing is important. Marketing is used everywhere and by everyone. From corporate to non-profits to political parties and even individuals, all use marketing to push their brand. But to ensure that the marketing strategies are fruitful, it is important to know what the target market is like before developing marketing strategies; for that, market research is used. Hence, market research helps in making the right business decisions.

Market research can be conducted by specific departments in the companies themselves, or through third-party independent agencies. There are primarily two types of market research: primary market research, which is then sub-divided into qualitative research and quantitative research, and secondary market research. Techniques of research vary according to the type of research being conducted. Qualitative research includes techniques such as focus groups, in-depth interviews and ethnography, whereas quantitative research includes techniques such as customer surveys and anything that involves analysis of statistical and quantifiable data.

The scope of market research is very wide and it is a great choice for a fruitful career.
