Banker refers to a person who is employed by a banking institution. The banker is responsible to fulfill the financial needs of the customer. The customer can be in the form of an organization or an individual who has diverse needs. In the field of banking one can be a branch manager to bank clerk. There are many opportunities available in both the private and government sector to individuals.

Banking today could be a niche career for those aspirants who belong to the field of commerce and accounts. For the beginners, it is the starting point towards understanding the global economy, and discovering the new challenges. Thus they start identifying themselves with a career that provides them with extensive opportunities, both within the country and abroad.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Table 1: Skills Required

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

For Bank PO (Probationary Officer)

1. Age of the applicant must be between 21 to 30 years in order to apply for the Bank PO exam.

2. Candidate must be a graduate and should have no criminal record to apply for Bank PO exam.

For Bank Clerk:

1. Candidates applying must be between 20 to 28 years old.

2. Candidates must possess a graduate degree in any stream and specialization from a well-recognized university

3. Applicants should not have a past criminal record before applying for Bank clerk.

For Bank SO (Specialist Officer):

There are various positions in Bank SO examination, age limit ranging from 20–30Y depending upon the post requirements.

1. Candidates must possess a Graduate degree.

2. Candidates must be a citizen of India/refugee from Tibet, who have migrated to India to settle permanently/ resident of Nepal or Bhutan.

ENTRANCE EXAMS AND PROCESS OF SELECTION

Following are the banking examinations conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS):

IBPS PO: This exam is conducted for public sector undertaking banks for the post of Probationary Officer.

IBPS Clerk: This exam is conducted for Public sector undertaking banks for the post of Clerks.

IBPS Specialist Officers (IBPS SO): This exam is conducted for Public sector undertakings for the posts of Specialist Officers like Marketing Officer, IT Officer, Agriculture officer etc.

IBPS Regional Rural Bank Exam: This exam is conducted for all the Regional Rural Banks of India (RRBs) for the recruitment of Probationary Officers, Clerks and Specialist Officers.

SBI Probationary Officer: SBI conducts examination for the post of Probationary Officer.

SBI Clerk: SBI conducts examination for the recruitment of Clerks.

RBI Grade B Exam: Recruitment of Grade B officers are done through All India exam.

RBI Assistants Exam: Recruitment in Clerical Cadres through an All India exam.

Following are the selection procedure in the banking sector:

A. Preliminary Exam: It is a written exam which comprises both objective as well as descriptive type questions. In the descriptive part the thought process as well as comprehension and expression of the candidate is evaluated whereas in objective part general knowledge, quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning and English is tested. This exam is conducted to select candidates for the main exam.

B. Main Examination: The main examination is conducted for the selection of candidates for employment in the participating banks. Depending upon the score obtained in the IBPS mains, state-wise merit list is being published.

C. Interview Round: The candidates who qualify the above 2 rounds have the opportunity to participate in this round. It is of 100 marks in total. He/she is judged by an Interview Board. They are judged on the basis of alertness, personality, way of talking, intelligence and willingness to work.
