If you have the ability to render a story, communicate, humor then you can definitely be an RJ.
SDF had the privilege to interview RJ Preeti, Product head at Radio Orange, Nagpur who gave us great insights on the career opportunities of a Radio Jockey.
What is Radio Jockeying?
A radio Jockey (RJ) works at a radio station and selects and broadcasts music for an audience. In addition to that, the radio jockeys also make comments on the latest news related to politics, sports, pop culture and inform their audience about weather and traffic.

Shashi dream Foundation was a privilege to have RJ Preeti for their career counseling session for “Career as RJ”. She is currently the product head at Radio Orange, Nagpur, broadcasting in 3 cities Akola, Bilaspur, and Sangli.
She has done B.com and Mass Communication RTMNU. She is a Radio Jockey and voice artist.
She briefed everything required for becoming a RJ. She said, becoming an RJ is not easy but not at all difficult of you incur specific qualities for a RJ. If someone has a quality voice, a good sense of humor, people love to listen to him/her and so on then one should go for radio jockeying. She informed, one can directly go for internship or jobs as a radio jockey but these days many institutions have started certified courses for radio jockeying that one can go for. Mass media and communication degree would be best for this field, apart one can go for certified courses for radio jockey as well. In the end, she advised everyone who intends to go for radio jockeying to start recording their voices, writing, or starts presenting anything in front of the public this would help to boost their public speaking skills and infidelity.

Radio Jockey Career Path
Announcer- This is the basic position in the radio station. An announcer reads advertisements and is responsible for introducing new content.
Music Director- They are responsible for how and what music should be played in the station for the audiences. They maintain the music library.
News Reader- This position has a set of formats and one needs to know this before starting as a newsreader.
On-Air Personalities- They are the ones we listen to on regular basis. They keep the audience engaged and entertained and manage scheduling ads and studio arrangements.
Production Director- This position is obtained after being a senior On-Air personality. They control On-Air traffic and schedule programs and strategize plans.
Station Manager-This is the senior-most position who is responsible for managing the station issues and programs.
